I was doing a side trip on my way to Tokyo and decided to go to Nagoya. I found this place near my hotel to relax and enjoy a winter weather sauna. I was greeted by a very nice receptionist who asked if it’s my first time and provided everything that I need to know. From the lockers, shower area, amenities, 100% clean. They have a big sauna, spring water outside shower, cold pool, outdoor relaxing area, and indoor with heater and Japanese mats to relax. Overall, it was a very pleasant sauna experience. I will definitely go back

I've always wanted to come to KIWAMI SAUNA!! It was absolutely amazing! The cold plunge pool was 2 meters deep. The sauna was also excellent. The relaxation area was in a courtyard, and the wooden atmosphere and view of the greenery were truly calming. I also enjoyed a hearty sauna meal on the second floor!! I'll definitely be back!!

This sauna facility is located about a 20-minute walk from Nagoya Station and is housed in a renovated old house. I saw it featured in a sauna magazine and decided to visit for the first time, so I've written this review. Reception First-time visitors are required to register via LINE. Scan the QR code, watch the video, and then register your visit. Payment is cashless only and paid after the visit. Exterior The exterior resembles an old-style cafe, making it hard to believe it's a sauna facility. The understated sign is easily overlooked on first visits, giving the impression that only dedicated sauna enthusiasts would visit. Sauna Room Width 5.5m, Depth 2.2m, Height 190cm The low ceiling allows for good heat distribution, and the heat spreads rapidly when performing löyly! The ladle has a unique shape, which helps prevent excessive löyly (too much water). Cold Plunge There's a warm water basin right next to the cold plunge pool, making it easy to rinse off sweat even in winter. If you sweat thoroughly beforehand, it's okay to immerse yourself completely. The perceived temperature is approximately 17.5℃ at the top and around 16℃ at the bottom. It feels like your feet start to get cold. Relaxation Space More than eight chairs are seated in the courtyard of the old house, so the chances of becoming a "relaxation refugee" are low. Further inside, there's a tatami space (indoor bathing area: storehouse) equipped with a kerosene heater and fan, where nearly 10 people can lie down. You can also enjoy the atmosphere unique to an old house, with Japanese garden lanterns, bamboo, and a veranda. Overall Impression One of the facilities that energizes Nagoya City, a city known for its passionate sauna scene. This sauna facility, renovated from an old house, is the "ultimate (KIWAMI)" facility that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city. While there are many facilities centered around Sakae Station, such as Wellbe Sakae, Imaike, and Sauna Monkey, I recommend this one if you're going after work. I envy those who live nearby!

Evidence & context

What research says about cold therapy

Recovery

Reviews of whole-body cold therapy mostly show effects on perceived muscle soreness and recovery after intense exercise. The evidence base is heterogeneous and samples are often small.

Research base

Studies describe short-term effects on pain perception and mobility. Results are inconsistent and robust long-term data is largely missing — a therapeutic benefit is not established.

Limitations

Cold therapy does not replace medical treatment. Effect, dosage and frequency vary individually — pre-existing conditions require medical clearance beforehand.
