I had a facial massage with cosmetologist Natalia at Skadi Cryo. I really liked both the specialist and the procedure. Natalia has a "light touch"; the procedure makes you completely relaxed and even sighs. Overall, it's a very pleasant place with high-quality service. It's impeccably clean and has a stylish interior.

The cryopod at Skadi Cryo is an open vertical capsule cooled with liquid nitrogen. The procedure lasts 3 minutes. Mine was at -175-186 degrees Celsius. They said this is enough to mobilize the body's internal reserves due to exposure to low temperatures. It felt cold, of course (especially towards the end), but tolerable. They measured my skin's surface temperature afterwards – it cooled to -2 degrees Celsius. A cup of tea was very welcome afterward. I recommend it! After the cryotherapy, I felt a bit euphoric, even a pleasant sensation, a surge of energy.

Evidence & context

What research says about cold therapy

Recovery

Reviews of whole-body cold therapy mostly show effects on perceived muscle soreness and recovery after intense exercise. The evidence base is heterogeneous and samples are often small.

Research base

Studies describe short-term effects on pain perception and mobility. Results are inconsistent and robust long-term data is largely missing — a therapeutic benefit is not established.

Limitations

Cold therapy does not replace medical treatment. Effect, dosage and frequency vary individually — pre-existing conditions require medical clearance beforehand.
