I had an incredible experience with Human Performance Lab when I needed urgent help recovering from an injury just before an important water polo tournament. Nadia and her team jumped in immediately and took great care of me. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with warm smiles and made to feel completely at home. I underwent several sessions of cryotherapy and red light therapy, which made a significant difference in managing my pain and speeding up the recovery of my injured muscles. Thanks to their support, I was able to compete in the tournament, and my team went on to secure an overall 3rd place in the Gauteng Premier League Water Polo Tournament. A big shoutout to Human Performance Lab and their amazing team — I can highly recommend them!

Evidence & context

What research says about cold therapy

Recovery

Reviews of whole-body cold therapy mostly show effects on perceived muscle soreness and recovery after intense exercise. The evidence base is heterogeneous and samples are often small.

Research base

Studies describe short-term effects on pain perception and mobility. Results are inconsistent and robust long-term data is largely missing — a therapeutic benefit is not established.

Limitations

Cold therapy does not replace medical treatment. Effect, dosage and frequency vary individually — pre-existing conditions require medical clearance beforehand.
