I have been going to John for about 4 years. He was recommended to me by my brother; and now my Father, daughter, sister in law and other brother also go to John! That is how good he is!! I initially went to John suffering with plantar fasciitis which I had for a year . Trying everything and nothing working. John got me back on my feet! As the saying goes; I love running but running doesn’t love me! John knows how much I need running for my mental health. Since plantar fasciitis I have had 2 stress fractures and tendionopathy. Using a combination of deep tissue massage, taping, cryotherapy, tens machine, dry needling, exercises to do at home along with rest; I have made a full recovery each time. Recently I completed my first full marathon, the Dublin marathon, and the Connemarathon half. I felt strong and pain free. I was on a high for days after. I feel so lucky to have found John and highly recommend him to all. Along with being an expert in sports physiotherapy he is also a kind genuine and funny man.

John has been my only physiotherapist for 13 years. As an athlete having represented Ireland in Squash as well as competing at representative level in lots of different sports since I was a child I’ve had my share of wear and tear and have always been able to keep doing what I’m doing with the care and support of John. I don’t know anyone that understands the human body as much as him. Couldn’t recommend him enough.

I have been attending John Butler Sports Therapy Clinic for 10+ years and with the aid of John and Oshin I have successfully completed numerous marathons. The team here have exceptional experience in all aspects of physiotherapy including dry needling, sports massage and strength and conditioning programs. The premises has a state of the art gym and also has a cryotherapy bath. For all these reasons and more I would have no hesitation in recommending this practice and would rate it highly.

Evidence & context

What research says about cold therapy

Recovery

Reviews of whole-body cold therapy mostly show effects on perceived muscle soreness and recovery after intense exercise. The evidence base is heterogeneous and samples are often small.

Research base

Studies describe short-term effects on pain perception and mobility. Results are inconsistent and robust long-term data is largely missing — a therapeutic benefit is not established.

Limitations

Cold therapy does not replace medical treatment. Effect, dosage and frequency vary individually — pre-existing conditions require medical clearance beforehand.
