Many years ago I ran a sauna from a love of going to saunas all around the world for years so this 5 star review is hard won for the hot box . The hot box is definitely one of the best - it has multiple saunas of various temperatures , saunas that are about the light with big windows and dark saunas about introspection , woodfired and electric options , so really multiple well thought out options for all etc , their plunge pools are spotless , no floating hairs etc , clean changing rooms , internal hot showers , external cold showers . Tiny improvements would be that it would be nice to have shower gel in the showers and to have their lovely coconut water from the cafe in the fridge in the reception of sauna also . They are very small things - the place is overall amazeballs ! Currently definitely my favourite sauna in cork - I’ve brought staff here , met friends , brought family , it’s a great set up . €15 mid week and €20 on Saturdays . The thing that is maybe most important to me is the 1 hr sessions , some saunas do 45 minutes but the 1 hr minimum is just enough to enjoy a few good sauna sessions , showers and enjoy the plunge pools etc. Great staff , great management , well made quality saunas , well located , great cafe and yoga room . They’re smashing it

Evidence & context

What research says about cold therapy

Recovery

Reviews of whole-body cold therapy mostly show effects on perceived muscle soreness and recovery after intense exercise. The evidence base is heterogeneous and samples are often small.

Research base

Studies describe short-term effects on pain perception and mobility. Results are inconsistent and robust long-term data is largely missing — a therapeutic benefit is not established.

Limitations

Cold therapy does not replace medical treatment. Effect, dosage and frequency vary individually — pre-existing conditions require medical clearance beforehand.
