Such a beautiful peaceful place to relax and rejuvenate. Great for relaxing the muscles and for recovery of injuries. Loved the plunge pool! Staff are amazing. Sanctuary Spa will now be a part of my regularly ‘self care’ routine.

Evidence & context

What research says about cold therapy

Recovery

Reviews of whole-body cold therapy mostly show effects on perceived muscle soreness and recovery after intense exercise. The evidence base is heterogeneous and samples are often small.

Research base

Studies describe short-term effects on pain perception and mobility. Results are inconsistent and robust long-term data is largely missing — a therapeutic benefit is not established.

Limitations

Cold therapy does not replace medical treatment. Effect, dosage and frequency vary individually — pre-existing conditions require medical clearance beforehand.
